West Virginia Home Inspection State Requirements

Does this state require Home Inspectors to be licensed?

Yes

Are there any educational requirements to be licensed?

Licensees may meet either an experience or education requirement. The education requirement is the completion of 80 hours of education

Is there a state exam requirement to be licensed?

Yes, all licensees must pass the National Home Inspector Examination.

Are there any experience requirements to be licensed?

Licensees may meet either an experience or education requirement. The experience requirement is presenting proof of having conducted business as an inspector for three years prior to August 1, 2006 (when the licensure requirement was enacted.)

Are there any other requirements to be licensed?

  • Submit an application and associated fees
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Submit proof of general liability insurance in the amount of no less than $250,000

When do the license expire?

Licenses expire annually.

Are there any Continuing Education requirements to renew a license?

Licensees must complete 16 hours of continuing education each year.
